Seminars and Conferences

The Centre has for many years hosted a series of seminars, which have provided a lively forum for debate among local and visiting specialists. CERC has also held a great many conferences. Video or audio records for a large number of these events are held at the Centre.

Electronic Resources and Library

The Centre houses and manages a national library resource collection of current Russian and Euro-Asian materials, largely in the form of press and periodicals and statistical materials in the languages of the CIS and Central/Eastern Europe. These cover the period of 1989 to 2000.

The Centre also receives over 12Mb per month of political, economic and statistical information from on Russia and Europe, all this is incorporated with the Centre's data bases which can be efficiently accessed and searched electronically by scholars at the university or affiliated with CERC.

In co-operation with the university's central library CERC also has access to the European Documentation Centre and the Know Europe database.

The Centre's data bases and information resources on these areas are unparalleled in the South Asia Pacific area.

From its extensive data base the Centre is able to retrieve information efficiently on a national, local and sometimes enterprise level, on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. This might for example include:

• Production data for all major commodities
• Performance indices for various sectors of the economy
• External and internal trade data, including pricing and tariff data
• Policy developments and their likely impact on production, trade and world markets
• Information on new laws and forthcoming legislative developments
• Search on the history of an individual or organisation
