Is the European Union Newsworthy for Australia?

The Contemporary Europe Research Centre at the University of Melbourne is hosting a Journalist Roundtable session in which panelists will be addressing the question: ‘Is the European Union Newsworthy for Australia?’ on Wednesday 11 June 2008 from 6.00 to 7.30pm. Panelist will address the question from their first hand experience in reporting on the EU and from the perspective of the media outlets in which they have worked. The Roundtable will be followed by an open dialogue among all participants.

The Roundtable panelists are:

James Button

James Button was Europe correspondent for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald between February 2005 and February 2008. He won Walkley Awards for feature writing in 2007 and 1992.In 2006 he won the British Commission for Racial Equality's international award for a series of articles on Muslims in Europe. He is on leave from The Age until later this year.

Fabrizio Galimberti

Fabrizio Galimberti is the Chief Economist and Chief Economic writer at Il Sole-24 Ore, Italy’s leading financial daily. He is also a Managing Partner of FG Economics, based in Melbourne. He has previously worked at the OECD, as a personal advisor to the Minister of the Treasury (Italy) and Fiat SpA. His most recent book is Letters from Palestine, BookSurge, 2006.

Daniele Kemp

Daniele heads the Melbourne team of SBS French radio. She joined SBS in 1986. She is a Graduate of Media Studies at the Australian Film and Television School with senior experience in tertiary education and public relations. Daniele holds a Master of Arts, is involved in the Australian Ballet and helps to judge the Victorian Premier's Literary Award.
