Biography

Dr. John E. Andersen, Ph.D, born 1949, is Director of International Affairs at the University of Copenhagen and Head of the International Office. From 1976–2002 Associate Professor at the Department of Nordic Philology at the University of Copenhagen, 1980–1985 leave and Visiting Professor at University of Basel and Zürich, Schwitzerland.

Dr. John E. Andersen has an active role in developing new programmes offered in English, renewing the International Strategy of the University and securing the international goals in the performance contract with the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Dr. John Andersen holds a number of honorary offices and assignments in Denmark and abroad:

  • Chairman of the Danish Rectors’ Conference permanent Committee for International Relations.
  • Member of the European Union’s “Sub-Committee for Higher Education” in Brussels within the European Socrates program.
  • Member of the Board of Directors at DIS, Denmarks International Study Institute.
  • Member of the Board of Directors at “Studieskolen”, the largest life long learning school in Copenhagen within languages and science and Danish language courses for foreigners.
  • Member of the Council of Internationalisation of Higher Education at CIRIUS, an authority within the Danish Ministry of Education with the aim to support the internationalisation of education and training in Denmark.
  • Member of the Think Tank for Internationalisation of Danish Education, appointed by the Danish Minister of Education.
  • Member of the advisory committee for assessment of indicators and goals for internationalisation of Danish institutions of education, appointed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
  • Member of the Board of Directors of the Centre for the Study of Denmark at Lund University, Sweden.
  • Member of the Board of Directors for the Sasakawa Foundation at the University of Copenhagen.
  • Warden (Ephorus) at the Student Residence ”4th May” at Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. A number of “4th May” residences were established in Denmark in 1951 as a donation from the Danish people and a living monument for the resistance against the German occupation during the second world war, 4th of May being the liberation day of Denmark in 1945.
  • Senior official and contact person for the International Association for Research Universities (IARU) at the University of Copenhagen.
