About UsThe Contemporary Europe Research Centre is an interdisciplinary research Centre located in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne. The Centre is also an EU awarded Jean Monnet Centre for Excellence. CERC crosses both national and disciplinary boundaries. As well as bringing together expertise from across the University of Melbourne, CERC collaborates closely with other Universities, Research Institutes and Centres, both in Australia and throughout the world. It's brief is not confined to the European Union but runs as far afield as Russia and the ex Soviet States of Eurasia. As its name suggests the Centre is concerned mainly with questions and issues related to modern Europe. However the Centre should also be seen as welcoming and offering support for a wide cross section of any contemporary research relating to Europe. CERC brings together people interested in aspects of European Studies from all over the university, and also other universities in Australia. It's primary mission is to facilitate and support research, discussion and associations between academics and postgraduates in the fields covered by the centre. To these ends CERC has a vibrant public lecture and seminar series, runs international conferences and workshops and also has a publications program. It also produces a regular and free email bulletin to keep scholars and other interested people abreast of happenings in the area both within Australia and abroad. The CERC network created through the Bulletin currently exceeds 1300. CERC also has a visitors programme and provides support to PhD and Masters students attached to CERC or associated with it. CERC has its own library and electronic data base as well as taking an active and constructive interest in larger University's libraries research infrastructure. CERC is constituted with both an Advisory Committee and a Board of Management. The former is constituted of academic stakeholders at the University, the latter includes both academics and representatives from outside the university. More about us: More information about CERC can be found by reading our brochure or our recent newsletters. |
