Dr Carolyn O'Brien holds a BA (Hons) in European Studies from the University of Bath and an MA and PhD in European Studies from Monash University. She has taught thematic and comparative European politics at Melbourne and Monash Universities.

Dr O'Brien is currently a Senior Policy Advisor managing the University of Melbourne's international relations, in particular regarding partnership with institutions in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia.

Dr O'Brien's publications include: Teaching European Studies in Australia (CESAA, 1999), co-edited with A. Pavkovic and C. Welch; and Rewriting Rights in Europe (Ashgate, 2000), co-edited with Linda Hancock. She was co-editor of CESAA Review (formerly CESAA Newsletter) from 1994-99. Her primary research interests include European integration; Australia-EU relations; West European nationalism; the extreme right; and French and German politics.
